Data Progress Tools: WRITING
List basic writing goals on an anchor chart. Students move their name to the goal they are currently working on and record in their data folders. Teachers can see in a glance where everyone is at.
Have students write about a topic every month. Each month's stories are attached to the board on top of the last. At the end of the year, the whole set can go into the students' data folder to show their growth over the year.
This chart shows the teacher exactly where each student is in the writing process. Students themselves would record where they are at in their data folders along with the date. Over time they can see how much better they become and therefore how much faster they move through the steps.
Each new writing task like sight words, vocab words, or spelling words are put on a fish at the beginning of the week and at the end. students can see how much better they do at the end of the week.
Another way to show score improvement by graphing. For spelling words, students can see how their scores increase as they come to understand how they learn and what forms of studying and word work works best for them.
