Data Progress Tools: MATH
For skills like this, students can fill in the squares of the shapes they know each quarter. As the year progresses, they will have more and more squares filled in!
I like how the skills are writing in student friendly language. I think this sheet could be at the front of the math section in a student data folder. As the student masters the skill they can highlight it.
For something like this, each student could be assigned a secret number. After a pre-test scores are posted and students record their results. Results are posted again after the math unit and students record their final results and (for older grades) percent improved.
Why not have students record math data using varying graphs? Not only does it show their scores over time, but they get to practice many different forms of graphing.
I like the idea of using this form as a chance for students to share how they feel they are doing with a skill and how the teacher feels they are doing. As the year progresses, the students can see how their confidence and ability in an area increases!
